An important cooperation agreement between The European Environment Agency (EEA) and EuroGeoSurveys (EGS), has been signed on Thursday 4th November, in the frame of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Ministerial Summit that took place in Beijng, China.
The settlement, signed by the Professor Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director of the EEA, and Luca Demicheli, Secretary General of EGS, sets out a framework for cooperation between the two organisations, in particular concerning the exploitation of the datasets of OneGeology-Europe for environmental protection purposes.
The first digital continental web portal about geology, which has built a system to serve geological map data from computers in each participating nation and makes it available on the internet to anyone with a web browser, has been officially released last week. OneGeology-Europe has 28 partners from 21 European nations. 20 of these partners are national geological surveys.
