7th Global Conference of International Water History Association in South Africa
From : 05.07.2011 Till : 07.07.2011 Location : Kruger National Park, South Africa
The International Water History Association (IWHA), founded in the late-1990s, aims to develop historical perspectives on our understanding of the role played by hydrology, aquatic sciences, and management in the evolution of civilisation. For specialists working in the field of water in the humanities and social sciences IWHA offers an opportunity to work in close collaboration with natural scientists and technology experts. Currently the association has about 600 members working in a variety of disciplines and fields closely related to the water sector and the aquatic environment in general. The association’s official journal, Water History, published by Springer, was launched in 2009. The objective of the 2011 conference is to create an environment, conducive for water historians to talk about the work they are doing in their respective fields of specialisation. The fact that the conference will be held in one of Africa’s premier nature reserves (the Kruger National Park), should provide the type of setting conducive to the contemplation of the manner in which humans have interacted with water and the environment since earliest times. The title of the conference ‘Talking water history on the African Veld’ conveys the idea underlying that objective.
